Scottish fold unique breed of cats

In 1961 cats with folded ears was found in Scotland among farm cats. Their unique owl-like appearance attracted breeders. Overtime they were bred to American short hair, British short hair, and British longhair. Now we have a breed of cats that called Scottish fold. Cats from this bread come in 4 different appearances (not counting coat color):1. Short hair folded ears , example my cat Sir Galahad. 2.Short hair straight ears like Ms. Blue Pearl. 3. Long hair folded ears like my kitty Blueberry. 4. Long hair straight ears like my kitten Romeo.

Scottish folds are gentle and calm cats. They are very sweet and social in nature with udemanding attitude. They're excellent fit for most families. They are medium size cats between 6 to 13 pounds and lifespan of 12 to 16 years. Short hair Scottish fold have plush, dence and resilient coat. They have soft pleasant voice. They do not like to be left alone, they need another cat to keep them company. Scottish fold cats prefer to be around their humas and like to follow them from room to room. Folds are very intelligent and inquisitive, they learn to play fetch, sit up, and some like to eat with their paws.

Cats with folded ears have a mutated dominant gene TRPV4. Now that we have DNA test available I would strongly recommend that anyone who breed Scottish folds to do DNA test on both parents. Sometimes kittens born with folded ears and after first vaccination their ears straightened up. This kitten look like it has straight ears and if breed with another folded cat 25% of their kittens will have 2 copies of the TRPV4 gene and severe joint problems.

In my breeging program I do DNA test on both parents. I like the”panda like” look of colorpoints cats so I am mostly breed colorpoint Scottish folds.I hope you like them as well.
